Alief Campus Retrofit Complete
HOUSTON, JANUARY 2008 -- RHJ -JOC, Inc. recently completed construction of the of the Alief Campus in Houston, part of the Houston Community College system. The project included the conversion and retrofit of a 315,000 square foot former Chevron Office Complex. Harrison Kornberg Architects the designer on the project developed a solution to transform the mid 1980 style office complex into a twenty-first century college campus with modern elements and appealing interiors. The renovation project was on a tight time schedule to accommodate the school year. RHJ -JOC associates was selected as the contractor for this project due to the fast track schedule and complex challenges of the site.
This project very important to the community which had outgrown its original campus in 2006, said Eva Jackson, President & Chairman of the Board. We have a long partnership with the Community College and worked very closely with them to devise an approach which enabled a streamlined schedule and also allowed them to control costs during construction and ongoing maintenance, said Jackson. The renovation was completed in time for the start of classes in January 2008 and has been overwhelmingly received by the students and the community overall.
RHJ-JOC has completed a number of projects for the Houston Community College (HCC) throughout the system since 2003. This includes projects at the Administration Building, The Fine Arts Building, Heinen Theater and the JB Whitely Building at the Central Campus. As part of their dedication to the community and commitment to mentor minority and small business enterprises, RHJ-JOC contracts with several subcontractors for their work at the HCC. RHJ -JOC is a partner with the Houston Community College to assist in the development of protégé under a Mentoring Action Plan it developed for the institution.
